Abstract
Tuberculous osteoarthritis of the symphysis pubis is rare form of tuberculous disease. CT and plain films of three cases with tuberculosis of symphysis pubis proven by surgery and histopathology examinations were done within two days after taking
simple
plain films, and incision and curretage were performed within 7 days.
On plain films widening of the joint space of symphysis bubis, average 2.7cm, osteolytic bone destruction and calcific deposition were noted in all cases, and soft tissue mass densities were also seen in two cases, On CT scans of two patients, in
addition to plain film findings, soft tissue abscesses were seen. In one cases the abscess pocket extended to pelvic cavity and in another case extended within left scrotum. Plain film and CT are able to demonstrate bony destruction and calcific
deposition equally, but CT is superior to plain film for demonstration of soft tissue involvement.
